What I expect to learn: I expect to understand the meaning of “Lying”.
Review:
This reflection is on chapter 6 which is “Lying” and the author of this book is Joseph Ellin, now in my personal point of view about lying, I used to think about it as bad when lying but I think it can be also for the goodness. Just like this quote “This is not without controversy. We define lie as a false statement that the speaker believes to be false.” This means that yes, the speaker knows that it is a lie and s/he is not telling the truth.
In my personal experience, I still remember my first conscious of lying, it is when I broke the handle of the window, because I’m afraid of my dad, I lied to him that I’m not the one who did that and that is what I remember of my first lying. And the feeling is not good because I don’t feel that I had tell the truth, now what I did was not good because it was not for my good for my parents by lying but I think that is not a lying for my goodness even though I’m afraid that my dad might hit me. So what I mean is that we could lie if someone might get hurt still that he or she is not bad.
To end this book review, I would like to end it with my conclusion that we must still say the truth even that it would hurt us because keeping the lie will give a “guilt” feeling to us til we grow up we would still bring it with us just like my personal experience which until now I still remember about it.
What I learned:
-Lying.
- Lying, good or bad.
Integrative Question:
1. What is the Lying?
2. Is lying good or bad?
3. In the author experience, was it good lying?
4. When could we lie?
5. What is lie for ethics?
